Existing comment: Wash Hebrew Congregational Bldg

This is the Washington Hebrew Congregational Building which was constructed in 1898. It was built for the city's oldest Jewish congregation, which formed in 1852. The congregation split into two factions and the more liberal group built this building. Later, however, they decided to move the congregation more uptown and sold the building to the Greater New Hope Baptist Church which has the uneviable position of having a Jewish star as one of its major stained glass windows. The building's outside is very dirty and I had initially presumed it was actually burned out and abandonned.
