President Richard M. Nixon and Vice President Spiro Agnew attacked the press as biased, especially TV news reporters, and in 1971 created an "enemies list." Nixon threatened Washington Post-owned TV stations with the loss of their FCC licenses in retaliation for the newspaper's Watergate coverage.
