THE LIFE OF A BUILDING
Buildings are often taken for granted. We see them as anchors, permanent fixtures in our lives. But the built environment is shaped by individual choices and mutual decisions. It is not inevitable, predictable, or immutable. Like people, structures have a lifespan. Some succumb to the forces of nature, others become outmoded, unfashionable, or fall into disrepair. We can mourn their loss and recall the memories they held for us. Still others live on, lovingly restored, renovated, or adapted for reuse. |
