On February 16, 2024, Putin succeeded in killing jailed Russian dissident and longtime Putin rival Alexei Navalny. Putin's best friend here probably is excited by the actions of a strong leader as he considers dealing with his own enemy list during his planned retribution period.
The film "Navalny", about the dissident, his poisoning and later arrest by Putin, won the 2023 Oscar for best documentary on March 12, 2023. It was shown here in DC at the Double Exposure film festival back in October, 2022.
