During the 1920s, the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) developed A New English System for New American Citizens, a curriculum that combined English-language exercises with lessons in American history and government.

"We Need Your Loyalty, Art, and Labor"
In the early 20th century, some companies offered language and citizenship classes, vocational education, and social work to help newcomers assimilate. In Pennsylvania, the Chester Shipbuilding Company published this special "Americanization Number" for its in-house magazine in 1919.
