Trigger was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for her fifth, sixth, and seventh patrols.
On her twelfth patrol in March 1945, the submarine sank a Japanese repair vessel in the East China Sea and was attacked in retaliation. Nearby American subs heard the depth charging and heavy explosions. Japanese reports later indicated that a submarine was attacked by aircraft and ships. Trigger was never heard from again. |
