A French Port

Painter Vernet spent much of his early life in Rome studying with marine artists. In 1753, he was called to Paris and commissioned to paint scenes of the ports of France. These paintings are in the Louvre and the Musee de la Marine. His port scenes were so popular that he continued to paint more and more of them. The Naval Academy is fortunate to have one. |
