Existing comment: In 1804, a convoy of 16 British East Indiamen chased a squadron of heavily armed French warships from the Strait of Malacca by masquerading as ships of Britain's Royal Navy. For this the triumphant officers and men of the Honourable Company were feted and awarded lavish sums of money. This medal was issued to commemorate the British victory.
