Putting notes inside models was a Stockwell family tradition. This one by George Stockwell's son of the same name was found inside the USNA Museum's model of the Inconstant, a 36-gun British frigate of 1780 (No. 52). It is dated Oct. 25, 1820. For reasons unknown, the younger Stockwell did not finish the model and the name on the stern was mistakenly changed to Perseverance. |
