Existing comment: This exhibition of prints from the Bevereley R. Robinson Collection highlights the connection between land and sea. While many naval battles take place in the open ocean, other stake place just off shore. Coastal city sieges and bombardments, for instance, require ships to be moored near the shore. The inclusion of the prints showing Philadelphia, New York ,and Annapolis as peaceful port cities counterbalance the battle scenes. They invite the viewer to imagine everyday life in these cities, the relationships between naval forces and cities, and the occurrences city inhabitants witnessed over the centuries.
