Some artists have attempted to create a more factual depiction of the crossing. Mort Kunstler, who reiminagined the event with the help of historians, shows Washington in a large flat-bottomed raft (a more likely vessel), in the middle of the night (when the crossing is known to have taken place), and without the American flag (which had yet to be adopted). |
