Existing comment: On August 28, 1955, teenager Emmett Till was brutally murdered in Mississippi. His murder and the southern travesty of racial justice that followed, inspired the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s and was the date chosen eight years later for the famous March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. The 2021 version of the march, March On For Voting Rights, focuses attention on the voter suppression efforts being done nationwide to destroy democracy in the United States.
