Old Marina:
Below you on the western shore of Mono Lake lies the site of Old Marina. Before water diversions from the lake's inflowing streams lowered the lake level by over 40 vertical feet, the marina was a focal point of lakeside recreation. Swimming, speed boat racing, and bathing beauty contests were common events at the Old Marina. If you would like to discover the remnants of the marina's past, drive north on US 395 for 1 mile to the parking area on your right. Reductions in water diversions are allowing the lake to rise again -- perhaps the marina will experience a revival some day. |
