Existing comment: Re-Imagine Your New MLK Library
The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library will undergo a major modernization to meet the needs of DC residents.
Designed by modernist Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and opened in 1972, the building was designated an historic landmark in 2007.
The architect team of Martinez & Johnson and Mecanoo recently completed preliminary designs for the modernization.
While not final, these renderings show the amazing possibilities as we work to transform the historic building into a center for learning, innovation and engagement for District residents.
