In 1955 many places in the United States kept Black and white people separate from each other. Disneyland welcomed everyone who had a ticket. But the parks mostly showed stories about straight white people.
Some Disney fans didn’t see themselves represented in Disney’s stories. They have visited the parks and made Disney symbols more personal. This way these fans make sure they are included in Disney’s stories about America. They’ve shown Disney how to make people from different backgrounds feel welcome.
