A first-generation Mexican-American and the first from both sides of her family to attend college, Elva attended the University of Texas at Austin and then transferred to a small, private college in St. Paul, Minnesota where she obtained her BFA in Visual Arts. After graduation, Elva worked as production graphic designer. She married a "wonderful, supportive man, had a baby and began to take many, many pictures." A friend introduced Elva to scrapbooking, an art in which she found she could combine her photography and illustrations. Elva recently launched her website elvasalinas.com where she sells her whimsical line of stickers and postcards.

The Home DepotĀ® provided the Disney Color by Behr paint and all the supplies to bring the "Celebrate Mickey: 75 InspEARations" statues to life.
