SportsCenter is ESPN's premier show, the program that the 24-hour sports network was built around. Still the centerpiece of the network, SportsCenter went far beyond television sports' customary three minutes of highlights on the local news. SportsCenter has become destination viewing for millions of sports fans, while re-defining TV sports. SportsCenter premiered on September 7, 1979 and its alumni include Greg Gumbel, Craig Kilborn and Keith Olbermann. ESPN's flagship show became the first program in television history to celebrate its 25,000th live show on August 25, 2002. One of the most watched shows on cable, SportsCenter is synonymous with quality sports news and information.
