Existing comment: The Ainu:
Originating from the island of Hokkaido near Japan, the Ainu were notable for their small stature, Caucasian appearance, and abundant hair. In a reed house originally erected from material brought from their home region, nine Ainu lived in an encampment within the vast exhibit organized by the Department of Anthropology.
Throughout the day, they demonstrated to Fair visitors their traditional arts and daily customs. The Ainu caved, wove, and made baskets, which they decorated with original designs and sold to fairgoers for between 10 and 25 cents.
