Fender

The unusual Swinger, also known as the Musiclander or Arrow, was an entry-level student model that Fender made for Slingerland music stores in 1969. It was composed of repurposed parts from several Fender instruments, including cut-down bodies from the Bass V and hardware from the Musicmaster student models. Tina Weymouth of the Talking Heads purchased this guitar in 1978 from the shop Strings N Things, formerly located near CBGB on the Bowery in Manhattan. It was used in the 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense for "This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)."

Warlock
1980s

B. C. Rich

Founded in 1969, B. C. Rich rose to prominence in the 1970s with its unusual guitar shapes, laminated neck-through designs, and powerful electronics. The instruments became favorites of hard rock and heavy-metal musicians and led the trend of increasingly colorful, angular guitars into the 1980s. This metallic red Warlock was played by Max Cavalera of the Brazilian thrash-metal band Sepultura. He removed the high E and B strings, using only the low strings for his heavy rhythm style. Other musicians who have used Warlocks include Slash of Guns N' Roses, Lita Ford of the Runaways, and Paul Stanley of Kiss.
