Existing comment: M3A1 Stuart Light Tank
The M3 Stuart tank was developed to meet the requirement for a lightweight maneuverable tank.
In 1941, the M3 was modified by the addition of a power traverse for the turret (rather than a hand crank) and an integral turret basket with seats for the gunner and tank commander, which rotated with the turret. After successful testing at Aberdeen Proving Ground, the modified tank was standardized and designated the M3A1. Manned by a crew of four, the tank mounted a 37mm gun and three .30 caliber machine guns. The M3A1 seen here was powered by the Guiberson T-1020 diesel engine.
