Five weeks into the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Kyiv-based designer Anton Belinskiy says things for him and his team are getting both better and worse. His reality, like many Eastern European creatives, centers around “puzzles that have to be unravelled and solved”. But, as well as keeping the brand he founded in 2009 afloat, Belinskiy has pivoted his focus from fashion to humanitarian relief. He now spends his days making thermals for soldiers, rather than his signature towel bags for discerning fashion fans. Yet you won’t find him mourning his life before the conflict; Anton Belinskiy is a doer—one who says he has always had this capability inside him.

“Every day is special; one day we are doing the manufacturing and sewing, the next day we are organizing help for all those who need it,” he shares of his MO now. “I even tried myself in different fields, such as inspecting the territory and weaving nets.” The Anton Belinskiy team landed on creating base layers and balaclavas for soldiers because of their combined skillset at sourcing technical fabrications.
