Suffrage Marching Song
Before her involvement with the Suffrage Fund Coffee campaign, Florence Livingston Lent wrote the lyrics for the Suffrage Marching Song, composed by fellow Massachusetts suffragist Fanny Connable Lancaster for the May 2, 1914, suffrage parade in Boston, estimated to have drawn 12,000 participants. Orchestrated for twenty-five pieces, the march was played during the parade and later sung at the closing rally by a 200-person chorus under the direction of Harvard musicologist Archibald Davidson, Jr. |
