Suffragists Reunite at Urging of Daughters
In 1890, second-generation suffragists Alice Stone Blackwell and Harriot Stanton Blatch helped to broker a merger of the two major national organizations, which put aside their differences to become the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA). In 1896 Alice (left) was photographed editing NAWSA's weekly newspaper, the Woman's Journal, which her parents had started in 1870. Joining her was Anna Howard Shaw, physician, ordained minister, national lecturer, and future president of NAWSA from 1904 to 1915. |
