Women's Declaration of Rights
On July 4, 1876, members of the National Woman Suffrage Association disrupted the nation's centennial celebration at Independence Hall in Philadelphia by pushing their way to the platform and giving Susan B. Anthony the opportunity to present this Declaration of Rights for Women to Acting Vice-President Thomas W. Ferry. Hurrying from the building, the women scattered copies of the document to the assembled body. Safely outside, a crowd gathered and Anthony read the women's demands. |
