Existing comment: Following the War, labor unrest, unease over the Russian Revolution, and fear of political radicalism and immigration led to what is referred to as the Red Scare. Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer belie ed radicals such as anarchist Emma Goldman represented a threat to the US. In a series of round-ups known as "The Palmer Raids," thousands of radicals were arrested. Many of those swept up in the raids, such as Goldman, were aliens and subject to possible deportation. Nearly nine hundred individuals, including Goldman and her partner Alexander Berkman, were deported in late 1919.
