Lavender Jane Loves Women
The album Lavender Jane Loves Women is widely considered to be the first lesbian record. Which is to say, performer Alix Dobkin, a self-identified lesbian, explicitly created music for a lesbian audience. Lavender was a color associated with lesbians during this time, and Betty Friedan had referred to lesbians within the feminist movement as "the lavender menace."
