Existing comment: Lester Westcott

Lester B. Westcott served with the 51st Pioneer Infantry in France and Germany, erecting barbed wire entanglements, building a stockade, and pulling guard duty. He could not share many details in his letters, but Westcott regularly assured his mother that he was healthy and would be home soon. Three days after the armistice that ended the fighting, he was able to write to his mother: "Well I suppose you are very much relieved now that I have scared the Kaiser out of Germany and I have come out of the mill without a scratch and have every reason to believe I will return O.K."
