This compendium of U.S. Signal Corps photographs was selected from the official files of the U.S. War department, in the words of Secretary of War Newton Baker "to illustrate the magnitude and effectiveness of the American military effort." In the image on the left-hand page, members of the 132nd Infantry Regiment, 33rd Division take advantage of camouflage left by German troops during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. The caption reads: "From Sept. 27 to Oct. 4 this division held the west bank, patrolling and reconnoitering in anticipation of the attack on Oct. 8, which involved crossing the river." The Meuse River is pictured in the aerial shot to the right.
