Existing comment: The U.S. Supreme Court

Although the nomination of a U.S. Supreme Court justice does not take place in the courtroom, it is newsworthy. Aggie Kenny and Howard Brodie were sent to cover the nomination hearings of John Paul Stevens and William Rehnquist. Confirmation hearings offer artists something the courtroom does not -- intimacy. Aggie Kenny wrote of her day in the Dirksen Building to document the hearings, "I was seated close to them and so relieved not to be struggling with distant figures." The proximity Kenny described is also apparent in the works by other artists who cover the Supreme Court for news broadcasts.
