Existing comment: Somali Pirate Tried as an Adult

Fiona Doherty, a federal defense attorney, stands during the trial of Abduwali Abdukhadir Muse, a Somali teenager, who had been brought to the U.S. District Court in Manhattan for his role as a pirate in the attack on the cargo ship Maersk Alabama, under the command of Capt. Richard Phillips. Philip Weinstein and Deirdre von Dornum, his other defense attorneys, sit next to Muse, who was the only survivor among the attackers. Prosecutor Brendan McGuire sits and listens to Doherty. Muse received a thirty-three-year sentence for his role in the attack and two earlier attacks in 2009. He is serving his sentence in the federal facility in Terre Haute, Indiana.
