As two African American women discuss the history generally taught in school, they strongly disagree over the historical legacy of Christopher Columbus. Through spirited debates among the single, black female characters in her strip, Barbara Brandon-Croft addresses issues of race, history, and identity, thus expanding topical range of comics. In 1991 she became first nationally syndicated black female cartoonist.
