Renowned for his steady, serene leadership, shortstop Roger Peckinpaugh, who was only twenty-three when he temporarily managed the 1914 New York Yankees, was Babe Ruth's choice to manage the team again in 1922. Instead, he was traded to the Washington Senators and led them to the 1924 World Series title. After he was named the American League MVP the next season, a committee of prominent local citizens purchased and presented this silver cup to Peckinpaugh at Game 3 of the 1925 World Series.
