The Concord Base Ball Club apparently took umbrage as well as matters into its own hands when its holiday game was purposely omitted from the town's authorized Fourth of July schedule of events. The team produced its own enthusiastic advertisement for its early morning contest, which was later pushed back to a more reasonable hour. According to the Concord Freeman, the visitors "suffered an overwhelming defeat," losing "36 to 2 in 8 innings" to their riled-up hosts. |
