The Piccirilli Brothers of New York carved the statue of Lincoln from 28 blocks of Georgia marble. It took a year for the six brothers to complete the work. Daniel Chester French often joined the workmen with a hammer and chisel. The Piccrillis' carving is so well done it is almost impossible to see the seams in the marble. |
