Italian immigrants, many trained in the marble quarries of Sicily, used wooden mallets, chisels, and calipers to carve immortal words in solid rock. These tools belonged to Anthony Lamanna, one of the carvers of the Gettysburg Address and Second Inaugural speech on the north and south walls inside the memorial chamber. |
