As a reporter for Jet magazine (and its sister publication, Ebony) for more than fifty years, Washington bureau chief Simeon Booker was on the front lines of virtually every major event of the civil rights movement that transformed America. His remarkable history is recounted in Shocking the Conscience: A Reporter's Account of the Civil Rights Movement, written with his wife Carol McCabe Booker.
