Congressman John Lewis lay in state outside of the US Capitol on July 27 and 28, 2020. Given the heat and Covid-19 which kept a lot of people way for their own safety, the lines moved quickly. The man was universally respected.
Trump cultists said that Lewis was getting praise from both sides whereas liberals didn't praise Reagan and Scalia much when they passed. Realistically, though, Lewis tried to move the country forward while the others tried to push it back.
Also note that Obama in 2016 had US flags at half-staff for Scalia for 8 days. Trump in 2018 had flags at half-staff for John McCain for 7 days although the child president denounced the war hero classily saying "I like people who weren't captured." John Lewis? One day. |
