Existing comment: Natl Law Enforcement Officers Memorial; New names

Each year around May Day, there's a candlelight vigil to unveil the new names of fallen officers added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. The names are those individuals who died in the previous calendar year as well as previous names that have come to light as having died of job-related injuries.

This picture was taken as they engraved the names for the 10th vigil in 1998. There would be 14,622 officers' listed by then. Interestingly, the company that does this does it by sand-blasting the names through stencilled names; not by actually engraving the names. Also interestingly, the same company that does this also does the names in the Vietnam Memorial and other similar memorials on the east coast.
