Airman First Class Chavis was shot by a sniper while providing escort security to local police officers in Al Wahdah, Baghdad, Iraq. Airman Chavis was transported to the hospital where he later died of his wounds. Airman Chavis, assigned to the 824th Security Forces Squadron at Moody AFB, Georgia, was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart. |
