Existing comment: Police and Pop Culture
Inspiring toys, books, TV shows, and movies, something about law enforcement captures our imaginations.
Most of us do not interact with real officers day to day, so most of what we know (or think we know) about law enforcement comes from the media -- the gangster with a tommy gun in his violin case, the outlaw hanged for robbing a train, the rogue cop who ignores the rules, but gets the job done. Stereotypes can be fun to joke about, but they do not accurately portray the reality or dangers of the job. In real life, officers churn out tons of paperwork, cases sometimes go unsolved, and nobody runs down a crowded street shooting at perps. But pop culture cops can inspire their real-life counterparts. Sometimes, it is the reason people become interested in the job in the first place.
