Existing comment: Hindia Jaji Mohamed
Radio Mogadishu and Somali National TV
In Somalia
When Hindia Haji Mohamed's husband, TV journalist Liban Ali Nur, was killed in a suicide bombing in 2012, she vowed to continue his work. A reporter and producer for the Somali state-run news outlets Radio Mogadishu and Somali National TV, she provided a vital service in a country ripped apart by violence. Dreaming of a more peaceful future, Mohamed was studying international relations and diplomacy at Somali International University while caring for her seven children. As she drove home from the university on Dec. 3, 2015, a bomb planted under the seat of her car exploded, killing her. She was 27. The Islamic terrorist group al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the attack. Two men were convicted of the murder and sentenced to death. Still, Somalia has the world's worst record for prosecuting the killers of journalists.
