Existing comment: 2015:
The rise of global terrorism has made journalism an increasingly dangerous profession. In 2015, journalists in Bangladesh, France, Pakistan, Somalia and Syria were targeted for death by terrorists, including eight journalists killed in an attack on the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo. The 20 journalists recognized here were selected to represent all journalists who died while reporting the news in 2015. International organizations that work to protect journalists say nearly 100 journalists were killed last year. The photos at the top of this wall depict journalists from previous years whose names are etched on the glass panels at left.
