Grow & Unite
The project and community site, Grow & Unite, addresses the artificially widened divisions in society while amending our relationship to one another and the planet. It is made to provide a free platform for collaboration in growing plants and collective action.
Terms and Conditions is a social critique that questions blind consent given to corporations through checked boxes and agree buttons. These plants are free to take to activate care in our community. This piece is meant to encourage personal growth through care for one another and the plants. I believe our positions are weaponized to hurt and divide the masses. Plant-life can help. It can teach and nourish, even heal us. We need to preserve and heal what is left in our cultures and ecosystems by caring for each life.
The anthropocene is increasingly replacing the world with solutions that are short sighted and aimed at comforting consumers. There are innovations that are not being funded; are patented and obsolesced; or are complicating the problem that they were made to solve. I created this body of work in relation to Grow & Unite to focus on the importance of solidarity and consensus to avert the worst of the climate catastrophes. Through community we can still provide what we need in harmony with the planet, but only if we generate the power to make decisions. It is important to listen, to feel and understand the complexity of the planet.
