Each flag honors someone who has died from COVID-19.
This art first appeared near the DC Armory in Fall, 2020. By the time that exhibition closed on November 30th, the US death toll was over 267,000. Most of the flags dedicated last fall have been added here in Section 00. The others are currently on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.
