The Whale Rifle. This rifle was intended for presentation by President Madison to a Cherokee warrior named Whale, for his "valor and heroism" at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. (Whale was one of the first to cross the river in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend, thus helping to ensure Jackson's victory). Two rifles were ultimately built for Whale, but it is unknown which, if any, he received. |
