1964
Lincoln Continental Limousine
This car was built to transport Pope Paul VI during his 1965 visit to New York City. Coachbuilder Lehmann-Peterson stretched the standard Lincoln Continental by 36 inches to create a roomier interior. The firm added step plates and handrails for security personnel, special interior lighting, a public address system, and a removable roof panel that allowed the pontiff to stand and wave to crowds.
The vehicle later served as a parade car in Chicago, where it transported dignitaries including Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins. The car passed through several private collections before being acquired by The Henry Ford in 2016.
