Existing comment: Heavy timber framing, including bracing, was used not only to build houses, but barns and mills, such as the 1841 Duvall Mill seen here. This grist mill used to stand on Randolph Road within today's Valley Mill Special Park in Montgomery County. This photograph, part of the Historic American Buildings Survey of 1936, demonstrates the impressive structural capabilities of this type of timber framing.
