Between 50,000 and 60,000 people were killed at this site. The Bisesero hills are known for the resistance of Tutsi who fought the militia and the military at Muyira hill. This memorial tells a strong narrative of victimhood. The human remains are washed regularly, with caretakers explaining that this helps give the victims back purity.
