Old Georgetown:
This building dates to the late 1700s and reputedly was constructed from brick which had been used as ballast in a ship from England. Originally the first apothecary store in Washington, it became a sign shop around 1860. In the 1890s, it was purchased for an office by LP Seibold, who had been appointed director of customs by President Harrison. It remained in his family's ownership until the mid-1900s.
