Thousands of soldiers died on Richmond's Civil War battlefields.
Many of those men posed for photographs, anxious to preserve their image as a memento for their loved ones. That frozen moment in time offers us a window into their lives, too. Every soldier profiled in this interactive display was killed or mortally wounded here, or at one of the other area battlefields. Proud descendants have donated most of these views.
